Riot Games has ambitious plans for League of Legends in 2025, extending beyond the core game. Project K, a new trading card game inspired by League of Legends, is set for a global launch next year. In the announcement video, Project K appears to target Magic the Gathering fans with familiar game mechanics.

As detailed by game director Dave Guskin and executive producer Chengran Chai, Project K supports 1v1 matches and can accommodate up to four players in 2v2 battles or free-for-all encounters. Riot Games aims to expand Project K's reach through partnerships with stores for local events, as well as larger national and international tournaments featuring top players.

However, Riot Games has yet to secure a publishing and promotional partner in the US trading card game (TGC) scene. Consequently, Project K's initial launch will occur in the Chinese market in early 2025. According to Polygon, Riot desires Project K's American launch to closely follow the Chinese debut, though no specific date has been set for the US release.

Earlier this week, Riot addressed fan backlash regarding Viktor's Arcane-inspired makeover in League of Legends. The company also announced that League of Legends will adopt a seasonal model starting in January 2025. While Arcane concluded its two-season run on Netflix last month, Riot hinted at more adaptations on the horizon. Notably, these adaptations will not involve Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo, as their plans for a live-action League of Legends movie fell through due to creative differences, resulting in a $5 million payout.
