Salma Hayek is determined to make her own money, despite being married to billionaire François-Henri Pinault. The 58-year-old actress recently shared her financial independence goals in an interview with WSJ. Magazine. "I support a lot of the aspects of my life and myself," Hayek stated. "I have the pressure to make a certain amount of money, and I like it. And now, I decided, I want to make more."
Hayek and Pinault, who tied the knot in 2009, maintain separate finances, although they do not have a prenuptial agreement. The 62-year-old French businessman, CEO of luxury retail group Kering, appreciates Hayek's work ethic, finding it "kind of sexy," she revealed. The "House of Gucci" star also mentioned her plans to embark on ventures with her and Pinault's 17-year-old daughter, Valentina.
Reflecting on her upbringing, Hayek disclosed that she was born into wealth due to her father's position as an oil executive. However, her father lost his fortune by the time she was in her 20s. This led Hayek to move to Los Angeles and become the breadwinner for her family back home. "That's when I became the best version of myself," she said.
After marrying Pinault, Hayek noticed a shift in how people treated her, with many wanting to discuss money and befriend her due to her wealth. "To me, the excitement about having a lot of money was that I didn't have to think about money, and it turned out all people wanted to talk to me about was money," Hayek added. "Strangers coming to me that aren't even friends, but they think we should be friends because they're rich too."
Hayek and Pinault celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary earlier this year, with the "Eternals" star sharing heartfelt sentiments on Instagram. "There are no words to explain the blessing of finding your soulmate," she captioned a series of photos. "For all of you who found it, never take it for granted. For all of you who haven't, never give up #tbt to one of the best days of my life."
