Shawn Fonteno's journey with the Grand Theft Auto series spans over two decades, starting with his voice work in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. However, his role in Grand Theft Auto 5 as Franklin Clinton, one of the game's main characters, was significantly more substantial. Recently, Fonteno joined Kai Cenat's stream and shared how much he relates to his iconic character, including some harrowing scars.

"When they selected us, they chose the right individuals for the job... My life experience mirrors that of Franklin. I have bullet wounds all over my body from gang-related activities," Fonteno recounted, lifting his shirt to reveal the scars from his past injuries. "It was effortless for me to embody that character," he continued. "I didn't need to act like someone else or alter my voice... I had to attend interviews with people your age. I thought, 'Man, I won't get this.' But they appreciated my voice, my persona, and who I am. They called me back, and that's when I met the actor who plays Lamar... Slink Johnson."

Both Fonteno and Johnson reprised their roles in GTA Online, with Fonteno inviting Johnson for a vocal appearance during the stream. Fonteno also contacted his cousin, Young Maylay, who portrayed Carl "CJ" Johnson in San Andreas. Maylay briefly spoke with his cousin during a call on the stream.

Fans eager for Grand Theft Auto 6 news from Fonteno might have been let down when he didn't divulge much information or confirm his involvement. A former Rockstar Games developer recently hinted that fans will be "blown away" by GTA 6. Meanwhile, Rockstar has confirmed that GTA 6 is on schedule for a Fall 2025 release.
