The historical drama Shogun, which narrates the intense power struggle in feudal Japan, garnered 25 nominations on Wednesday, leading the pack for this year's Emmy Awards in television. The FX network's series first season is set to vie for the best drama Emmy, competing against the final season of Netflix's The Crown and Apple TV+'s The Morning Show, among others.

Another FX production, the gripping restaurant drama The Bear, secured 23 nominations, marking a record for a comedy series. Its second season, focusing on the transformation of a Chicago sandwich shop into a top-tier dining establishment, will again compete for the best comedy award, a category it previously won at the last Emmys.

Other comedies nominated include ABC's Abbott Elementary, set in a financially struggling Philadelphia school, and HBO's Hacks, which features a septuagenarian comedienne and a millennial writer. Netflix's Baby Reindeer, a series about a bartender being stalked by a customer, received a nomination for best limited series, among its 11 nominations. The creator and star, Richard Gadd, has claimed the story mirrors a real-life incident, although a defamation lawsuit disputes the accuracy of the stalker's portrayal.

Contenders for the limited series category also include Netflix's psychological thriller Ripley, FX's Fargo, and HBO's True Detective: Night Country. Netflix led all networks with 107 nominations, including 18 for The Crown. FX closely followed with 93 nominations, slightly ahead of HBO and Max from Warner Bros Discovery with 91 each.

The Emmy Awards, the pinnacle of television honors, will announce the winners at a live, red-carpet ceremony broadcast on Walt Disney's ABC on September 15. The recipients will be selected by the nearly 22,000 members of the Television Academy, which comprises performers, directors, producers, and other industry professionals. The last Emmys ceremony took place six months ago in January, delayed due to strikes by Hollywood writers and actors.
