Southern Wind has launched the second unit in the SW108 series, named Kiboko 4, at their facility in Cape Town, South Africa. The 35.5-metre sailing yacht is set for delivery in early 2025 and will join her sistership Gelliceaux on the water. This marks the fourth yacht built by the shipyard for the same owner.
Collaborating once again with Farr Yacht Design for naval architecture and Nauta Design for interiors, Southern Wind CEO Marco Alberti emphasized the design priorities for Kiboko 4: "Our focus was on weight optimization, performance, and aesthetics, while preserving the light, airy Mediterranean feel of her interiors." The yacht’s captain was also closely involved throughout the entire build process.
Constructed with a Corecell core for lightweight displacement, Kiboko 4 features twin rudders and a lifting keel. Her full carbon hull, deck, and bulkheads are complemented by a carbon mast and boom, along with titanium deck fittings. The yacht offers a four-cabin layout, including the owner’s cabin forward and three guest cabins amidships, creating a social area forward of the saloon with living and dining spaces, plus a television lounge. The interior, inspired by marine themes, utilizes light oak veneer with walnut accents.
A notable feature of Kiboko 4 is her opening transom, which houses a tender garage capable of accommodating a five-metre dinghy. This design also transforms the aft section into a beach club for onboard relaxation. The owner shared their vision for the yacht: "She will primarily serve as a family boat, ideal for Mediterranean summers and, for the first time, sailing across the Atlantic to explore the Caribbean."
On the technical front, Kiboko 4 is equipped with twin 300hp Cummins engines, providing a cruising speed of 10 knots and a top speed of 14 knots. This launch follows the announcement of Southern Wind’s sixth SW96 model, set to debut in regattas in 2026.
