Team Europe's Captain, Suzann Pettersen, has revealed her four captain's picks to finalize the roster of 12 players who aim to make history at the upcoming 2024 Solheim Cup. This biennial event, pitting Europe against the U.S. and dating back to 1990, is scheduled from September 14th to 15th at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia.
Following the conclusion of the AIG Women's Open at St Andrews, which marked the end of the qualification period, Pettersen made her crucial selections to complement the eight automatic qualifiers. Europe is determined to make history by retaining the trophy for the fourth time in a row, having triumphed in 2019 and 2021, and drawing in Spain in 2023 to keep the trophy.
The U.S., which hasn't won since 2017, still leads the series 10-8. Switzerland's Albane Valenzuela and Denmark's Emily Kristine Pedersen, along with England's Georgia Hall and Sweden's Anna Nordqvist, are the four captain's picks who will compete at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club from September 13th to 15th.
Hall, a two-time winner on the Ladies European Tour, expressed her excitement about her fifth consecutive Solheim Cup appearance, stating, "I love being part of Team Europe, this will be my fifth Solheim Cup and it's always great to represent Europe."
Nordqvist, set to become the most-capped Swede with nine appearances, said, "There is no bigger honor than to represent Europe in the Solheim Cup, so I am very excited to have been picked to play in my ninth Solheim Cup."
Pedersen will make her fourth Solheim Cup appearance, equaling the record for the most-capped Dane. The four picks will join other qualifiers from the LET Solheim Cup points and the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings.
The Solheim Cup, the premier team tournament in women's golf, will be held at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia, from September 13th to 15th. Team Europe is the current champion, having secured a draw in the last contest in Spain.
