Next year will commemorate the 10th anniversary of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt Red's blockbuster that has spanned two console generations. Even during the development of The Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red was laying the groundwork for its futuristic sequel, Cyberpunk 2077. A recent report now indicates that The Witcher 3 nearly featured a direct crossover with Cyberpunk 2077 in a quest that would have temporarily transported Geralt of Rivia to Night City.

This insight comes from a new eBook series, What Lies Unseen, a multi-volume account of The Witcher 3's development by modders and data miners Crygreg, Ferroxius, and Glassfish. According to the first volume, the quest titled Through Time and Space originally involved Geralt and his companion, Avallac’h, visiting Night City in Cyberpunk 2077 while exploring the multiverse to uncover information about the Wild Hunt. In one of the discarded lines of dialogue, Avallac'h describes Night City as "technologically advanced, yet broken... on the brink of collapse." Geralt initially questions if the city is part of the afterlife before expressing his disdain for the odors and noise. Interestingly, Geralt would have inadvertently left a lasting impact on the city by giving coins to a beggar he felt sympathy for. Those coins were intended to hold greater significance, as the initial plan was for the beggar to reappear in Cyberpunk 2077 as a wealthy individual.

Although the crossover did not materialize, Geralt has made appearances in games outside The Witcher series, such as Monster Hunter: World and Soulcalibur 6. It is likely that Geralt will also return in The Witcher 4, which has recently entered full-scale production. While the sequel may be years away, a physical edition of The Witcher's Gwent card game is set to release in 2025.
