Tom Holland and Austin Butler are gearing up for a high-octane adventure. No, it's not for Top Gun 3 or Speed 3. Instead, the Spider-Man and Dune stars are preparing to headline the true-story-inspired racing drama American Speed, which, according to THR, has just secured a home at Amazon MGM Studios.

The upcoming film, scripted by Dan Wiedenhaupt (Alpha) and produced by Charles Roven of Oppenheimer, will feature Holland and Butler portraying two of the three notorious Whittington brothers, race car drivers. Likely, they'll be playing Don and Bill Whittington, who were embroiled in the IMSA scandal of the 1980s. This scandal saw key figures in the racing world accused of financing their sports activities with money from drug smuggling, money laundering, and tax evasion.

While a director has yet to be announced, and there's no release date in sight, this is the latest in a string of exciting film news involving Holland and Butler. Since his return from an acting break post-The Crowded Room, Holland has locked in a July 2026 release for Spider-Man 4 and secured a leading role in Christopher Nolan's next project. Meanwhile, Butler's filmography is filling up rapidly. After roles in Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Two, Masters Of The Air, and Jeff Nichols' The Bikeriders earlier this year, he's now set to star in Darren Aronofsky's Caught Stealing with Matt Smith and Ari Aster's Eddington. So, while American Speed might take some time to rev up at your local cinema, it won't be long before these in-demand actors zoom back onto screens near you. Vroom vroom!
