Tony Todd passed away last week at the age of 69. While he is perhaps most recognized for his roles in the Candyman and Final Destination film series, the actor has also lent his voice to several prominent video game characters in recent years—such as Venom in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Developer Insomniac Games expressed their condolences over the weekend, posting a statement on X that the team was 'heartbroken' by his death. 'He brought so much joy to our studio during the production of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and to many fans around the world with his inimitable voice and presence. We are Venom... forever,' Insomniac said.
Spider-Man 2 introduced the symbiote, portrayed by Todd. Last year, the actor joined other key figures from Spider-Man 2 for a Comic-Con panel titled 'Symbiotic Relationships.' Prior to the game's release, Todd told Marvel.com that 'Venom is one of the coolest Marvel characters ever created.' Last month, Insomniac announced that Spider-Man 2 will be released on PC on January 30.
Todd will also appear in next month's Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. MachineGames creative director Axel Torvenius shared a message on X, stating: 'Tony's kindness, warmth, professionalism, and the vast experience of his career inspired us, and filled us with respect and love for him. It was truly awe-inspiring getting the opportunity to know and work with him.' Previously, Todd voiced roles in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Half-Life: Alyx, and Back 4 Blood as Doctor Rogers. His film career, which spanned decades, included appearances in Platoon, The Rock, and 2021's Candyman.
