Tony Todd, the renowned actor best known for his roles in the Final Destination films, Night of the Living Dead, The Rock, and his iconic portrayal of the Candyman, has passed away at the age of 69. Todd died peacefully at his home in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, as confirmed by his representative.

Throughout his illustrious four-decade career, which included over 200 acting credits on both the big and small screen, Todd was celebrated for his memorable performances in films like Platoon and in various Star Trek series, including The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager. His stage career was equally impressive, with notable roles in Broadway productions such as The Captain's Tiger, Othello, and the musical Aida.

Born in Washington DC in 1954, Todd became a household name and a horror genre icon with his role in the 1992 film Candyman, based on Clive Barker's "The Forbidden". He reprised the role in two sequels, Candyman: Farewell To The Flesh (1995) and Candyman 3: Day Of The Dead (1999), and again in the 2021 film directed by Nia DaCosta, which was co-written by Jordan Peele.

Virginia Madsen, Todd's co-star in the Candyman series, paid tribute to him on Instagram, expressing her deep sorrow and calling him a "truly poetic man" with a "gentle soul and deep knowledge of the arts". She also humorously noted that she hoped he would haunt her occasionally, but would not summon him in the mirror.
