Epic Games' primary objective with Fortnite Creative is to evolve Fortnite into a platform for games that diverge significantly from its core battle royale mode. Independent creators, although still far from producing a breakout game in Creative, have begun to explore this path. Creator duuk has developed a 10-player free-for-all Fortnite Creative map that emulates the cherished wallrunning mechanic found in first-person shooters like the Titanfall series. At 19 years old and based in the Netherlands, duuk is among the first to introduce this mechanic in Fortnite Creative. The map can be accessed via the Discover tab using the code: 9756-5951-6748.

Upon entering the map, players are instantly switched to a first-person perspective. They can practice the wallrunning mechanic in a small training area before venturing into the full map, which resembles a warehouse lot. While the mechanic isn't as fluid or responsive as in games like Titanfall 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, it offers an intriguing blend of wallrunning with other Fortnite mechanics such as mantling and shockwave grenades.

Rumors of wallrunning being added to Fortnite's battle royale mode have circulated for over a year, with hints from YouTube and TikTok videos suggesting its inclusion in future chapters and seasons. Despite these rumors, Epic Games has never officially confirmed the feature. Movement has been a highlight of Fortnite, with the battle royale team continuously enhancing traversal mechanics through special items that grant players extraordinary abilities.

The base movement system in Fortnite's third-person mode has evolved through its five chapters (with Fortnite Chapter 6 on the horizon). Previous updates have refined sprinting, mantling, climbing, and sliding mechanics, transforming the game from its original survival format in 2017. Many battle royale features are available in Creative, though copyright restrictions prevent certain items like the Spider-Man gauntlets from crossing over without a generic rebranding.

Fluid movement mechanics are still rare in Creative, but players are gradually pushing these boundaries. This map marks duuk's first full release within the Fortnite Creative ecosystem. If popular, mechanics and game types can spread rapidly in Creative, potentially leading to further refinements of wallrunning in future maps and updates.

While wallrunning is the standout feature of duuk's map, it also stands out through its first-person perspective. Although first-person mode has been hinted at for battle royale, it only became available to Creative users in October 2024 as an experimental feature. This mode, still in its infancy, lacks some weapons, use cases, and player features found in Fortnite's standard third-person mode.

Fortnite Creative has been gradually evolving since Epic Games introduced Unreal Editor for Fortnite, expanding creator tools through deeper integration with Unreal Engine. The ability to use various camera angles, including a top-down view, allows creators to build experiences distinct from the battle royale mode. Wallrunning, a beloved mechanic in many shooters, is being further explored by these creators in this Creative map.
