On Friday, Turkey blocked access to Instagram, according to the national communications authority, which provided no explanation. The BTK communications authority stated on its website that 'instagram.com has been blocked by a decision on the date of 02/08/2024,' without offering further details. Numerous users in Turkey reported on the X platform that they were unable to refresh their Instagram feeds, a problem confirmed by AFP journalists. The Turkish presidency's communications director, Fahrettin Altun, criticized Instagram on Wednesday, accusing the platform of preventing people from posting messages of condolence for martyr Haniyeh. Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas and a close ally of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was killed in Tehran on Wednesday in an attack attributed to Israel. 'This is a very clear and obvious attempt at censorship,' Altun stated on X.
