Turok is making a comeback. During The Game Awards, Saber Interactive revealed Turok: Origins, marking the first new installment in the Turok series since 2008. The debut trailer showcased a cinematic style and glimpses of gameplay, highlighting a significant change from previous entries: a third-person viewpoint.
In this game, players will step into the shoes of a Turok warrior, battling both ferocious dinosaurs and an alien menace. Armed with weapons such as bows, shotguns, and plasma rifles, players can enhance their power suit by collecting DNA, which not only upgrades the suit's appearance but also grants skill improvements and new abilities. The trailer hinted at cooperative gameplay, allowing friends to team up against the dinosaur threat.
A brief gameplay snippet demonstrated the third-person perspective against charging dinosaurs, evoking comparisons to Horizon. "Turok was one of the first console shooters I ever played," said Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch during the announcement. "When we considered game franchises that deserved a revival, Turok was at the top of our list. At Saber, we enjoy taking classic IPs and blending them with fresh gameplay. We're thrilled to announce the game, but we'll be even more excited when we deliver this nostalgic experience with contemporary execution."
Turok: Origins is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
