President Sheikh Mohamed has allocated $5 million to bolster the emergency polio vaccination campaign in Gaza following the resurgence of the virus in the region. This funding underscores the UAE's ongoing commitment to assist Palestinians, particularly children, amid the severe humanitarian crisis they face. The World Health Organisation verified on August 23 that a child in Gaza has been paralyzed by the type 2 poliovirus, marking the first such instance in 25 years. This initiative, in partnership with the World Health Organisation, UNICEF, and ANROA, aims to administer two doses of the polio vaccine to over 640,000 children under the age of 10 in Gaza, with the goal of curbing the virus's spread and averting a disease outbreak. The campaign will commence on September 1, rolling out in phases from Central Gaza to South and then North Gaza, each phase lasting three days during humanitarian pauses to facilitate access to health facilities and ensure community workers can reach children. Approximately 1.26 million doses of the polio vaccine have already been shipped to Gaza, with an additional 400,000 doses expected shortly. Over 2,100 health workers, including mobile teams, will be involved in the distribution of both rounds of the vaccination campaign.
