The United Arab Emirates has extradited Italian citizen Danilo Coppola to Italy following an official request. Coppola, who is convicted of financial crimes and sought by authorities, was handed over as per the bilateral extradition treaty between the UAE and Italy. Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi, UAE's Minister of Justice, and Carlo Nordio, Italy's Minister of Justice, confirmed the decision during a phone conversation. Both ministers emphasized that the successful extradition underscores the commitment of central authorities to uphold the rule of law and foster international cooperation.
They highlighted that this achievement is a testament to the robust relations between the two nations and a shared resolve to uphold justice. Additionally, they noted that such actions demonstrate the countries' eagerness to continue their collaborative efforts. Both ministers reiterated that "these agreements underscore our commitment to enhancing cooperation in legal and judicial matters in line with international best practices, aiming to bolster efforts against serious and organized crime."
"This positive step in our judicial cooperation reaffirms our joint commitment to ensuring that criminals do not evade justice by fleeing abroad to avoid punishment," they stated. The two sides also emphasized their dedication to exchanging information on critical judicial requests and maintaining communication channels between the central authorities of the UAE and Italy, reflecting a strong commitment to strengthening judicial cooperation and bilateral ties.
