As global warming continues to affect our planet, the term 'heatwave' has swiftly integrated into our daily lexicon. But what constitutes a heatwave? The Ministry of Health and Prevention utilized Instagram to elucidate the fundamental aspects of a heatwave. The ministry explained in their post that "heatwaves are a natural meteorological event resulting from the entrapment of warm air in the atmosphere." Nonetheless, a simple increase in temperature does not signify the onset of a heatwave. The ministry further explained that heatwaves are characterized by temperatures surpassing their usual averages for multiple consecutive days. Occasionally, increased humidity levels can enhance the perceived warmth of the weather. The demographics most susceptible to these conditions include pregnant women, infants, children, the elderly, and outdoor workers. To safeguard workers from the intense heat, authorities have initiated a range of measures. From providing free ice cream to prohibiting outdoor work during peak hours, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has implemented at least five initiatives to mitigate the effects of heat on workers.
