The US Embassy in India has announced the opening of an additional 250,000 visa appointments for Indian travelers, including tourists, skilled workers, and students. This initiative aims to assist hundreds of thousands of Indian applicants in securing timely interviews, which is essential for enhancing travel that bolsters the people-to-people ties crucial to the US-India relationship.
The US Mission to India also reported that it has processed over one million nonimmigrant visa applications for the second consecutive year. During the student visa season this summer, a record number of applications were managed, ensuring that all first-time student applicants received appointments across the five consular sections in India.
In 2024, over 1.2 million Indians traveled to the US, representing a 35 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023. Currently, at least six million Indians hold nonimmigrant visas, and the US Mission continues to issue thousands more. US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti emphasized, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Joe Biden set a challenging goal to improve and expedite the visa process, and I am proud to say that we have fulfilled that commitment. Our consular teams at the embassy and four consulates work diligently to meet the growing demand.”
