India secured the 2024 T20 World Cup title with a seven-run win in the final, with Kohli contributing a fighting 76 off 59 balls. The Indian bowlers successfully defended a total of 177.

Following India's victory at Kensington Oval, Kohli, who was named player of the match, declared, "This was my last T20 game playing for India." He added, "Time for the next generation to take the T20 game forward."
