The fully electric EX90 does not signal the demise of Volvo's largest gas SUV—the XC90 will continue to be produced. A new generation model is not imminent, but the current luxury vehicle is receiving another update. This follows the 2019 update and introduces several modifications both inside and out. Despite the second-generation XC90 being a decade old, it is aging well. The minor update includes a new grille design, slightly updated headlights with a revised LED daytime running light signature, and a modified front bumper with vertical air vents. The lower air intake now extends further out. At the rear, Volvo has maintained the familiar taillight shape but updated the light pattern.

More substantial changes occur inside, where the previous 9.0-inch infotainment system has been replaced. For 2025, a larger 11.2-inch touchscreen takes center stage, resembling a tablet protruding from the dashboard. The screen is not only larger but also sharper, with a 21% increase in pixel density. If you prefer an even larger display, the EX90 offers a massive 14.5-inch infotainment screen. The new setup includes shortcuts to apps and controls on the home screen, facilitating faster access to preferred functions. Opting for a plug-in hybrid XC90 means the fully electric drive mode is just a tap away. The new infotainment layout mirrors recent Volvo models, despite the XC90's debut in 2014.

Additionally, Volvo has added extra sound insulation in certain areas for a quieter cabin. The dashboard now features redesigned air vents and decorative panels made from recycled materials. The updated cabin offers greater practicality with more storage space in the center console, including an additional cupholder. The wireless charging pad has been relocated behind the central tunnel, no longer obstructing the storage area. Volvo has not disclosed technical specifications, but diesel engines are no longer available. The plug-in hybrid promises over 43 miles in electric mode on the WLTP cycle and over 497 miles with the gas tank. In the United States, the outgoing XC90 plug-in hybrid offers 32 miles of electric range and a total range of 530 miles. Volvo will also offer the XC90 in B5 and B6 mild-hybrid versions. An air suspension is available, adjusting the SUV's height by up to 1.57 inches or lowering it by up to 0.8 inches. Active chassis technology monitors the road and vehicle 500 times per second for a smooth ride. Orders are being accepted, with production set to start near the end of the year.
