A prequel to the Prime Video series 'The Boys,' titled 'Vought Rising,' was unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, featuring Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash. The Boys series executive producer Paul Grellong will serve as both executive producer and showrunner for 'Vought Rising.' Ackles also confirmed his return as Soldier Boy in Season 5 of 'The Boys.' The superhero series revolves around a group of unconventional vigilantes battling corrupt super-powered individuals known as 'Supes.'
The show's panel kicked off with a humorous live musical performance of songs from the series, actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan taking the stage, and a teaser trailer for Season 2 of the spin-off 'Gen V' at the annual pop culture event. Jessie T. Usher, portraying the speedster A-Train, briefly joined the performers on stage for a rap. Clips were displayed on screen as performers sang, including the Season 4 song 'Let's Put the Christ Back in Christmas' from 'The Boys' parody of 'Disney on Ice.'
Morgan, who moderated the panel and stars as CIA analyst Joe Kessler in Season 4, introduced the performers as 'world-class Broadway talents.' The Season 4 main cast members, including Antony Starr as Homelander, Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, Chace Crawford, Laz Alonso, Tomer Capone, Usher, and Karen Fukuhara, took the stage. The show's creator, Eric Kripke, was also present on the panel. Season 5, set to premiere in 2026, will be the final season of the series, aligning with show director Kripke's vision for the comic-book adaptation. The popular series has also given rise to the animated series 'The Boys Presents: Diabolical.' Stars have returned to San Diego Comic-Con following the 2023 writers and actors strikes, which resulted in a less prominent event last year, devoid of A-list celebrities or Hall H panels known for major industry announcements.
