Young Arab writers have successfully cultivated a dedicated fan base among the younger demographic by integrating social media into their writing. They have captivated both avid readers and those who typically do not engage with literature through their compelling content on various platforms. At the ongoing Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF 2024), these authors are constantly approached by eager fans seeking autographs or a brief interaction. Emirati students from various educational institutions, particularly, form long lines to meet their favorite authors.

The fusion of creativity and accessibility has attracted numerous followers who appreciate their work and feel a personal connection to their messages. Utilizing platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, these writers disseminate their stories and ideas in a manner that resonates with today's youth, thereby encouraging a broader audience to embrace literature and storytelling. These young writers have particularly built a strong following among young women, through engaging social media videos where they share poetry and deliver motivational speeches. Their online presence has made them relatable figures for aspiring writers and readers alike.

One such enthusiastic fan is 11-year-old Jana Rabea, who expressed her excitement to Khaleej Times: "I'm thrilled to get my book signed by all my favorite authors." Prominent writers from the GCC countries, whose works are published by Kuwait's Darshaghf publishing house, include Fahad Albashara, a founder and partner in the publishing house with 2.6 million followers on Instagram. He has authored two inspirational books, 'Ena Allah Maana’ (God is with us) and ‘Hataady’ (You Will Overcome), which encourage young readers to believe in their strength.

Mashaal Hamad, with 430,000 followers on Instagram and 1.1 million on X, and Mshari Bodraid, who has 467,000 followers on Instagram and engages with 14,400 followers in a group on the platform, also draw large crowds. Their content empowers the younger generation to navigate their challenges and emerge victorious. Maram, a 21-year-old from Al Wasl University, came specifically to meet Fahad Albashara. "His words in 'Ena Allah Maana,' which means 'God is with us,' deeply touched my heart, and I wanted to meet him," said Maram.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old Sheikha was equally excited to see Fahad Albashara and Mshari Bodraid. "I have read all of their books, and I came today for their signatures on the new ones," she told Khaleej Times. For the young audience, the authors' inspiring messages have captivated their hearts. However, not all attendees are dedicated fans; some simply enjoy the excitement surrounding the authors. Ahoud, who accompanied a friend to the fair, mentioned: "I usually see their (authors) viral videos, so I wanted to take photos of the authors because my friend loves them." For those eager to meet their favorite authors, the SIBF will continue until November 15 at the Sharjah Expo Centre. This year's theme is ‘It Starts with a Book’.
