An exciting new chapter in the history of the Bonallack Trophy and Patsy Hankins Trophy is set to unfold at Al Hamra Golf Club in Ras Al Khaimah, which will host the 2025 editions of these prestigious events.
Held every two years, these Ryder Cup and Solheim Cup-style match play competitions feature teams from the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) and the European Golf Association (EGA). The 12th Bonallack Trophy and the fourth Patsy Hankins Trophy will take place from January 8th to 10th, 2025, showcasing the finest amateur golfers from both regions. Notable past participants in the Bonallack Trophy include Cameron Smith, Geoff Ogilvy, Min Woo Lee, Hideki Matsuyama, Takumi Kanaya, and Kiradech Aphibarnrat for the Asia-Pacific, and Jon Rahm, Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Danny Willett, and Francesco Molinari for Europe. In the Patsy Hankins Trophy, which began in 2016, Yuka Saso, Hannah Green, Patty Tavatanakit, and Atthaya Thitikul have represented Asia-Pacific, while Albane Valenzuela, Emma Spitz, Helen Briem, and Lottie Woad, the current world number one in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), have lined up for Europe.
Taimur Hassan Amin, Chairman of the APGC, expressed his delight in returning to the biennial schedule after disruptions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, highlighting the importance of these events in showcasing future stars of professional golf. Caroline Huyskes, President of the EGA, praised the support from the Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) and Al Hamra Golf Club, emphasizing the excitement for the upcoming matches between Asia-Pacific and Europe.
General Abdulla Al Hashmi, Vice-Chairman of the EGF and a Board Member of the APGC, welcomed the opportunity to host the 2025 events, noting the high caliber of talent from both regions. Al Hamra Golf Club, managed by Troon and located in Ras Al Khaimah, became an official DP World Tour venue in 2022, hosting the Ras Al Khaimah Championship.
Paul Booth, General Manager at Al Hamra, expressed the club's excitement in hosting these prestigious events, promising a world-class experience for all involved. The Bonallack Trophy and Patsy Hankins Trophy consist of three days of competition, including five foursomes and five fourball matches on the first two days, followed by singles matches on the final day. A total of 32 points are up for grabs, with 16.5 points needed to secure victory.
