Apple Inc has cut around 100 positions within its digital services division, with the most significant reductions impacting the team overseeing its Apple Books app and Apple Bookstore, as reported by Bloomberg News on Tuesday.
These job cuts encompass some engineering positions and other services teams, such as the one managing Apple News, according to sources acquainted with the situation. Apple has chosen not to comment on the Bloomberg News article.
It remains unclear how many staff members were employed in Apple's services sector. The company reported approximately 161,000 full-time equivalent employees as of September 30, 2023, in its recent annual report.
Apple has been restructuring its teams due to changing priorities, including advancements in artificial intelligence. It has previously halted development on its forthcoming high-end Vision headset and discontinued a project aimed at designing and producing its own smartwatch displays earlier this year, as per media reports.
Apple has encountered challenges in China, its third-largest market, since last year, with sales dropping by 6.5 per cent in the last quarter.
