Nintendo is steadily expanding the Switch Online library, one game at a time, or in this case, one tetrimino at a time. The original Tetris for NES is set to join the subscription service on December 12.
The official Nintendo of America account on X announced that this classic puzzle game will be available to Switch Online members later this month. This particular version of Tetris is also included in the Tetris Forever collection, which features Tetris Battle Gaiden and Super Bombliss. This compilation is essentially a dream come true for Tetris enthusiasts.
The addition of games to Switch Online has been consistent over the past few months. For example, last week saw the arrival of three Sega Genesis titles on Switch Online + Expansion Pack, including ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron. Notably, this specific game is among many that Sega is removing from Steam this month.
In November, Donkey Kong Land for Game Boy was added to Switch Online. This platforming title from Rare aims to replicate the side-scrolling gameplay of Donkey Kong Country on SNES for the less-powerful handheld system. Another Rare title, Banjo-Tooie, also made its way to the subscription service in October.
Switch Online offers a basic membership for $20 annually, providing access to NES, SNES, and Game Boy titles. The premium Expansion Pack tier, priced at $50 per year for individuals, grants access to Sega Genesis and Nintendo 64 catalogs, among other perks. Subscribing to either tier also allows access to Tetris 99.
