JRPG enthusiasts have been inundated with a plethora of nostalgic remasters and retro-inspired games, and now, Threads of Time is poised to make its mark. Announced at the Xbox Showcase during the Tokyo Game Show, Threads of Time positions itself as a spiritual successor to Chrono Trigger, boasting a visual style akin to Square Enix's HD-2D JRPGs such as Live a Live and Octopath Traveler. It is set to debut on PC and Xbox Series X|S.
Developed by Riyo Games, Threads of Time spans multiple epochs, from the prehistoric era of dinosaurs to a distant future. Players will traverse these distinct time periods, uncovering the connections that unite them and delving into a narrative of intertwined destinies and hidden truths. A shadowy conspiracy awaits, and players must assemble a party to reinstate the ancient order of the Time Knights and thwart any impending malevolence.
In terms of gameplay, the title features a dynamic turn-based combat system and time-altering abilities. Players can enlist allies from various eras, who can assist in executing potent combo attacks against adversaries. While a release date for Threads of Time remains undisclosed, Xbox has eased the anticipation by announcing that Square Enix's Trials of Mana and Legend of Mana are now accessible via Game Pass. Additionally, the Final Fantasy 1-6 Pixel Remaster is available for Xbox Series X|S and PC, with Bandai Namco's Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake slated for launch on November 14.
