China's President Xi Jinping praised the Chinese Olympic team on Tuesday for upholding high standards of "morality, style, and cleanliness" in their quest for gold medals at the Paris Olympics. His remarks come as there is renewed focus on doping concerns involving Chinese swimmers and intensified government measures to tackle fan culture in sports, following incidents where fans utilized social media to harass and spread false information about the nation's Olympians.
During a gathering at the Great Hall of the People, Xi commended the athletes for their accomplishments, outstanding discipline, and behavior. "On the field, (Chinese Olympians) adhered to the rules, showed respect to their competitors... maintained excellent race discipline and civilized etiquette," Xi stated during his interaction with the athletes.
